Program Description

At Harvard, the study of ethnomusicology concentrates on the ethnographic study of any musical tradition in relationship to its cultural setting. Ethnomusicology, alongside historical musicology, is a track within musicology, broadly defined as the disciplined study of music and includes the historical, comparative, and systematic aspects of the field.

Consortia and Cross-Registration

A 5 year, joint AB/MM program between Harvard and the New England Conservatory is available. Cross-registration is available at a wide variety of institutions in the Boston area; full information on these cross-registration programs can be found online.
